Traditions: Red for New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is celebrated all over the world with parties and social gatherings, with fireworks and champagne spanning the transition of the year at midnight. Beside the worldwide celebration of the new year, there are so many traditions specific to each culture, continent or country. I like a lot the tradition that says that everyone, and especially women should wear something red for the New Year's Eve party.

Italians call New Year's Eve Capodanno (the "head of the year") or Notte di San Silvestro (the night of the saint celebrated on 31 December). Tradition provides a set of rituals for the new year, as dress red underwear or get rid of old or unused items by dropping them from the window.

Mexicans down a grape with each of the twelve chimes of the bell during the New Year countdown, while making a wish with each one. On New Year's Eve, those who want to find love in the new year wear red underwear and yellow if they want money.

The French call New Year's Eve "la Saint-Sylvestre". It is usually celebrated with a feast called le Réveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre. This feast customarily includes special dishes like foie gras and drinks like champagne. The celebration can be a simple, intimate dinner with friends and family or a much fancier ball (une soirée dansante).

Spanish tradition says that wearing red underwear on New Year's Eve brings good luck.

In Venezuela, many of the traditions are very similar to the ones from Spain, with an over-emphasis in traditions that supposedly will bring good luck in the year forthcoming. Those who want to find love in the New Year are supposed to wear red underwear on New Year's Eve.

If you don't wear red underwear for the New Year's Eve at least wear something red, to get lucky and lovely :)

Worst Dressed in 2009

Another year has come and gone, and it’s time once again to reflect who has made the biggest impact style-wise as well as who should be carted away and locked up forever and ever by the fashion police. Here’s a roundup of some of the worst celebrity outfits and gala costumes for this year. Every red carpet has its hits and misses, and 2009 was no exception.

There is no need to adjust your glasses readers - yes, these really are our beloved stars and yes, they really dressed that bad on some occasions.

From an Obama dress to whatever Christina Aguilera had going on, see who had the most head-scratching dresses and worst inspiration.

Bow Fetish

Many choose to wear bow-ties because they instantly increase the sexual appeal of the wearer by 16%. Women have been known to cross speeding traffic for a man in a well-knotted bow-tie. This attraction can be parlayed into more subtle outlets, such as making a person generally cooler and/or more charming. Also, as if by magic, some bow-ties have the ability to make a man incredibly humorous.

One of the lesser-known facts about bow-ties is that in addition to their use as a sexual stimulant, bow-ties can also be used to increase the intelligence of wearers by between 19-24%. This usage is not instant however, and requires a great deal of cultivation and fine tuning. Though when this processing is successful, the increase in mental capacity is recognizable.

Bows or ribbons as well as bow-ties are very appealing and sexy. I love bows because they are cute, feminine and can spice-up an outfit, draw attention and increase the level of confidence whenever it gets down.

Lace for Christmas Grace

In an outfit, lace could be extremely sexy, elegant or chic, depending on the item, on the color and on the occasion. Personally, I am not a lace fan, but I admit that sometimes lace could do magic. I also think that only bold and confident women can wear this fabric without making it look cheap. Black lace can be very elegant and sophisticated especially when accessorized appropriate to the occasion.

How to Make a Christmas Flower Centerpiece

When decorating your dining table for Christmas dinner, remember to add an eye-catching centerpiece. Making your own centerpiece is much cheaper than purchasing one and with a few basic steps, you can design your own beautiful centerpiece using Christmas flowers and candles.

Things You'll Need:

  • Plate or tray
  • Floral foam wreath
  • Pillar candle
  • Approximately two dozen red poinsettias
  • Small gold and silver ornamental balls
  • Greenery
Step 1
Soak the floral foam wreath in a sink full of water for about 15 to 30 minutes until completely soaked through. To keep the wreath submerged in the sink, place a heavy bowl or plate on top of it. Remove it once it's saturated, then set it in a dish drainer or colander so the excess water can drain from it.

Step 2
Place the foam wreath on a plate that is slightly larger than the diameter of the wreath. If you are decorating a long rectangular table, make three of these centerpieces.

Step 3
Cut the poinsettia stems back to approximately 1 inch from the base of the flower. Starting with the red poinsettias, add the flowers to the foam by inserting the stem into the foam. Work all the way around the wreath, covering it entirely.

Step 4
Place a white pillar candle in the center of the wreath. If desired, you can place a hurricane lamp over the candle.

Step 5
Insert small ball ornaments throughout the flowers. Remove the small cap on the end of the ornament, leaving the wires sticking out; insert the wire into the wreath to hold the ball in place.

Step 6
Place some greenery right under the edge of the plate. Scatter a few of the ball ornaments over the greenery. Light the candle right before dinner.

Winter Wondeland - Snowflakes' Dance

You can notice how happy I was, playing in the snow! I'm in love with snowflakes! I am hypnotized by their coming down, just lightly floating through the cold chilly air, like slow motion. I like to stare for long at their dance on the music of the wind. Then, I close my eyes and just wait for their landing on my face and in my open palms. It's so awesome, so beautiful, so white, so perfect!

Snowflake's Story

Once upon a time in the land of Spirit,
A raindrop splashed happily in its puddle.
And suddenly it heard the call of the Spirit-wind.
"Come, come with me. I want to transform you.
I want to take you on a journey that will change you."
And the raindrop splashed and laughed and continued to play.

"I am fine here. I do not wish to go."
But the Spirit-wind persisted.
"Come, let go of your comfort.
Come with me and I will change you."

The drop was transformed uniquely and beautifully,
and it began to fall gently toward the ground.
It swirled and floated
and finally landed upon the face of a child,
who squealed in delight,
"Oooh, a snowflake."
And the Spirit-wind whispered,
"You have become who you are meant to be."

Sweet Sweet Christmas

Cateva alternative la prajiturile traditionale romanesti de Craciun. Desi ador cozonacii bunicii, prajitura cu nuca, metroul si tiramisu-ul mamei ma ia cu lesin cand vad aceste minunatii. Abia astept sa mergem acasa!
