How to Make a Christmas Flower Centerpiece

When decorating your dining table for Christmas dinner, remember to add an eye-catching centerpiece. Making your own centerpiece is much cheaper than purchasing one and with a few basic steps, you can design your own beautiful centerpiece using Christmas flowers and candles.

Things You'll Need:

  • Plate or tray
  • Floral foam wreath
  • Pillar candle
  • Approximately two dozen red poinsettias
  • Small gold and silver ornamental balls
  • Greenery
Step 1
Soak the floral foam wreath in a sink full of water for about 15 to 30 minutes until completely soaked through. To keep the wreath submerged in the sink, place a heavy bowl or plate on top of it. Remove it once it's saturated, then set it in a dish drainer or colander so the excess water can drain from it.

Step 2
Place the foam wreath on a plate that is slightly larger than the diameter of the wreath. If you are decorating a long rectangular table, make three of these centerpieces.

Step 3
Cut the poinsettia stems back to approximately 1 inch from the base of the flower. Starting with the red poinsettias, add the flowers to the foam by inserting the stem into the foam. Work all the way around the wreath, covering it entirely.

Step 4
Place a white pillar candle in the center of the wreath. If desired, you can place a hurricane lamp over the candle.

Step 5
Insert small ball ornaments throughout the flowers. Remove the small cap on the end of the ornament, leaving the wires sticking out; insert the wire into the wreath to hold the ball in place.

Step 6
Place some greenery right under the edge of the plate. Scatter a few of the ball ornaments over the greenery. Light the candle right before dinner.
