It is time to say goodbye to Napoli....

Trying to get away from the crazy renovations that we are going through with the apartment  the past couple of weeks, my husband and I decided to have a well deserved vacation. Actually, it was a surprise for him. The destination was a secret until 2 days of the departure.

My first experience with Napoli and Capri was five years ago, when as an Erasmus student I lived and studied a year in Italy. Then, I got the wonderful opportunity to explore and discover the true beauty of Italian culture. My friend Marisa and I went to Napoli, Capri and Pompei on a weekend trip to meet some friends of hers and get in touch with the true Italian spirit and beauty in the southern part of the country. I was becharmed of the music that Napoli is, and the romantic picturesque island of Capri.

Coming back to nowadays, I thought it would be wonderful for both Liviu and I to see these places together. And I cannot tell you the great experience that we had to discover a city rich in history, culture and art.

I am leaving you with the pictures of Napoli, and stay tuned for Pompei, Ercolano, Capri and Ischia ;)

Have you ever experienced flying during a storm?! Well it was our first (hopefully the last) time and believe me it's breathtaking and heartbreaking!

After the tremendous flight and an hour train delay at Napoli Central Stration in the middle of the night (Grrr!), we finally got to the sweet, cozy hotel with a wonderful metropolitan view.

Naples is a frantically hectic city. When you think of Naples perhaps the first mode of transport you think of is a moto, or vespa. I have never seen, such a haotic traffic like in Napoli, in none of the cities and countries I visited in all my life. But that is one of the "beauties" of it. Actually I was very surprised when the audio guide from the Sightseeing Tour that we took, said that traffic in Naples is nuts. People are aware of the way they drive and not seam to mind the Police or the rules. It is the place where the social order breaks down and it is every man for himself. The traffic lights are usually ignored as well as cars going the wrong way down one way streets.

Some may find the conditions of many buildings and streets, and the rampant graffiti, off-putting. Others claim this is "the immense character and culture of Napoli...and even the dirt and grime has its own flavor...a Neapolitan recipe for reality, and great fun".

Pizza comes from Naples. Eating a pizza in Florence or in Rome is not the same as eating it in Naples! Neapolitan cuisine in general features much seafood, befitting its status as an ancient and still functioning port.

It's easy to find a good pizzeria, just look for one without tourists! We tried two of them recommended by the receptionist in our hotel: Da Ciro and Fratelli la Bufala, in Piaza Monicipio. They were both delicious and customer friendly. We miss them a loooot!

Domani e un altro giorno!
